February 23, 1985: On this day in history, Bobby Knight threw a chair, the world split in half, and the Hoosiers lost to Purdue.

(Things get good around 1:03.)

Missed it by a day! But still, classic sports moment.

One of my favorite sports moments, and, one of the most-repeated stories in my family history. My mom’s side of the family hails from Bloomington (though they moved to Lafayette), while my dad’s side comes from Lafayette and surrounding areas. So, growing up, the IU-Purdue basketball games were social epicenters of each winter. My dad will still reference chair-throwing in-regards to the yearly contest.

In addition, I was born the night of a Purdue-IU game (http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/PUR/1984-schedule.html). My dad likes to note that I was born after the game (a Purdue win, of course), so he got to watch the whole thing in the hospital. I’m a natural-born Boiler.

And this song, too—-I mean, I really like Pavement and all, but I think this is the top of the pile of 90s-alt-guitar-rock.  For real.  Probably played it 50 times on the radio back in college days, and I don’t regret a single spin.  Right, Dave?

Damn, if these dudes come to Chicago/Indiana (yeah right), I’m gonna have to go.
